National Guard To Patrol New York Subways Amid Rising Crime
New York, N.Y. – New York is implementing a new subway safety plan that includes adding more officers and instituting bag checks following a series of violent incidents.
New York’s Governor said hundreds of National Guard troops will be deployed in an effort to keep weapons off trains.
Nearly 100 bag-screening teams will be stationed at about one-third of the city’s subway stations.
Not everyone is on board with this plan. The New York Civil Liberties Union said this is just another name for stop-and-frisk.
