Inmate Saves Mecklenburg County Officer That Was Choking

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An inmate saved a Mecklenburg County Officer that was choking while on duty earlier today, according to a news release.

“I am happy to know that our officer is doing fine after this frightening situation,” Sheriff McFadden said. “Without the quick thinking of our resident we might have lost a fine officer today. I am incredibly grateful for their heroism. This is a perfect example of why it is so important to change the culture within our detention centers across the country.”

Authorities said the officer was working in the kitchen area of the detention center when they started choking. Another officer attempted to administer the Heimlich maneuver but was unsuccessful.

This led to one of the inmates stepping in, administering the Heimlich maneuver and saving the officer’s life.
