New Airline Rules Give More Benefits For Flyers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Good news for airline travelers. The Department of Transportation issued new requirements for refunds when flights are cancelled or delayed.

Passengers will receive automatic cash refunds if a domestic flight is delayed by more than three hours. The same applies to international flights that are more than six hours behind schedule.

Airlines are also required to provide information up front about fees for baggage and changing flights.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg believes the changes could save travelers millions each year. The new rules would also require a refund of any baggage fees for bags that arrive more than 12 hours late.
