Community Reacts After Officers Ambushed In East Charlotte Neighborhood

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It’s a quiet day in this east Charlotte community despite gun fire still being fresh in many minds.

Two years in the neighborhood and Kelly Robert has never seen a home with a gaping hole and bullet riddled siding so close to where he lives.

Another neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, says she has been in her home for 57 years, “it’s been a wonderful place to raise my children and my grandchildren.”

Struggling to remember the last time any crime occurred close by neighbors say they don’t recall anything other than a couple break ins a few years back. None of the residents who spoke with WCCB’s Zane Cina could remeber anything close to Monday’s fatal shooting.

One neighbor said, “this is the worst thing that’s ever happened in the history of Charlotte.”

Many saying they’re ready to move forward. Some residents say they expect the neighborhood back to normal with time although moving past the loss of life will take longer. One homeowner telling WCCB she is working to host a meditation meet-up in the neighborhood park bringing neighbors together to overcome the traumatic shooting incident.
