Clouds Build Ahead of Showers & Storms

Mostly cloudy skies return to the Carolinas by Monday afternoon before a wet and stormy Tuesday and Wednesday.

Happy Mother’s Day! Unfortunately, the magnificent weather for Mom’s big day will not last much longer. Mostly clear skies overnight will allow for another prime viewing opportunity for those trying to catch the Northern Lights as lows dip into the 40s and 50s. Clouds will quickly push into the Carolinas on Monday, but highs should remain near 80º for most Piedmont and Foothills communities. Rain chances will pick up overnight into Tuesday ahead of a storm system approaching from the west.

Scattered showers and storms will rumble through our area as we kick off the second day of the workweek. We’ll need to watch for a few heavy, gusty cells throughout the day, but the highest severe threat stays well to the south and southwest. Storm chances linger into Wednesday as the system clears out to the east. Highs quickly recover into the mid-80s on Thursday around the Metro to go along with plentiful sunshine. Next weekend is trending wetter, but doesn’t look like a washout.
