Discussion:
We’re in for an active pattern through the Memorial Day Holiday. The ridge of high pressure is beginning to flatten out, leaving an opening for a series of short-waves or ripples of disturbances in the upper atmosphere that could trigger storms. As moisture and heat build, instability will also be increasing. Highs will reach the upper 80s today but it will feel more like the low 90s. We’re watching for storms to move in from the west later this afternoon and into the evening. The biggest threat will be damaging wind and hail. Instability will increase Friday leading to more coverage of these afternoon and evening storms, but the same threats apply. Saturday will be hot with highs once again near 90, but storm coverage will be a bit more isolated. By Sunday, the cold front will be approaching the area. The highest severe threats will be Sunday into Monday. Damaging wind, hail and isolated tornadoes will be possible as the front moves through the region. Once it passes, drier and slightly cooler air will lead to a drop in temps and humidity by Tuesday and Wednesday.
