WeatherWise Alert Today:

Round 1: Morning – Early PM Storms

A line of storms over TN could bring a wind damage threat early in the AM to the mountains toward the I-77 stretch

Biggest concern will be damaging wind and hail, but we need to watch how these storms weaken in the next few hours

Round 2: Late Afternoon – Early Evening Storms

Near a cold front will be where the next severe threat comes into play today

Damaging wind, hail and isolated tornadoes are all concerns

Discussion:
We’re currently watching a line of storms off to our west that is still producing damaging wind and potentially even a few tornadoes. It should weaken over the next few hours, but storms will be likely in the mountains before daybreak and continue east toward the I-77 corridor out of Alabama and Georgia. Biggest concern will be damaging wind. In the wake of morning storms we may see a few more storms fire up in this afternoon. Temps will reach the mid 80s today with dew points in the 60s/70s there will be plenty of instability and enough shear to support storms developing. Our main concern will be for supercells developing along a cold front late this afternoon into the early evening. Damaging wind, hail and isolated tornadoes will all be possible. Once this line moves through, cooler and drier air will settle in for the rest of the week. It won’t be as humid with temps in the upper 80s Tuesday. Temps will fall into the low to mid 80s through the rest of the week. Storm chances won’t return until late in the weekend.
