CMS Offering Summer Programs For Students

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Tomorrow is the day a lot of students have been waiting for: the last day of school.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is preparing to keep students busy during the summer months with a number of programs. They have programs for students as young as kindergarten all the way through upcoming seniors.

Below are details on the CMS summer programs:

Read to Achieve (RTA)

β€œReading is Fundamental” That slogan has been around for decades. We believe every student should be reading at or above grade level by the end of third grade. The RTA camp will help students move toward reading proficiency. But there’s more:

  • Personalized small group instruction
  • Engaging materials coupled with explicit instruction and support

Grade Levels: Rising 3rd and 4th

Dates: June 24-July 31 (No camp during July 4 week)

Times: Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m.- 3 p.m.

End-of-Course and End-of-Grade Reassessment

These standardized tests can create stress for 5th and 8th-grade students, as well as high school students. That is understandable. Not all students test at a proficient level in Literacy, math, or science. ThisΒ programΒ allows students to receive support with an opportunity to retest. The initial course grade, however, is not replaced.

Times: 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Sites: All Elementary and Middle Schools

8th-grade Remediation: June 10-13
