East Charlotte Murder Suspect Arrested In Texas

Police say the suspect wanted for an east Charlotte murder has been arrested in Texas.

On Monday, June 3rd Jose Francisco Ulloa-Martinez, 42, was arrested in Houston, Texas by the Houston Police Department and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, according to CMPD.

Ulloa-Martinez is accused of murdering 23-year-old Kevin Merlos-Saravia on May 26th at the Woodland Estates Apartments on Winged Elm Court near Redman Road in east Charlotte.

Detective’s with CMPD’s Homicide Unit traveled to Houston and interviewed the suspect. He was then charged with 1st degree murder, according to a news release.

Ulloa-Martinez is currently awaiting extradition to Mecklenburg County.

CMPD says the arrest of Ulloa-Martinez is the result of the coordinated effort of the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), along with the assistance of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office (SC), South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Unit, Houston Police Department (TX) and Houston Police Department’s Gang Unit (TX).

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police are conducting a homicide investigation after one person was found dead in east Charlotte early Sunday morning, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

It happened around 5 a.m. at the Woodland Estates Apartments on Winged Elm Court near Redman Road.

When officers arrived, they located one victim with a gunshot wound that was pronounced dead at the scene.

What led up to the shooting is unclear at this time.
