Hottest Stretch Of 2024 Ahead

The humidity steadily builds back into the Carolinas over the next several days, as well.

Happy Hump Day! Charlotte hasn’t cracked 90° since September 7, 2023 – 279 days ago. That streak is in serious jeopardy as we move into the back half of the week. Highs will soar into the upper 80s across the Piedmont and Foothills this afternoon; a few spots will even see the big 9-0, especially south and east of the Metro. The hottest stretch of the year arrives to close out the workweek. Afternoon temperatures likely get into the 90s around the Metro on Thursday, and mid-90s are possible for many on Friday. Humidity levels are also on the rise as we head into the weekend.

A weak cold front pushes through the Eastern Seaboard by Friday evening, but significant rain chances don’t appear to be in the cards for us. That said, we may see a stray storm or two on Friday and Saturday. Highs will cool slightly into the 70s and 80s through the weekend. Some Gulf moisture may stream northward as we head into Sunday and Monday, but even this doesn’t look particularly consequential right now. We’ll also want to watch the Carolina coastline for a potential tropical disturbance over the coming week – the National Hurricane Center is giving a budding area of low pressure a 20% chance of becoming a named storm over the next seven days.
