Fiery Start to Father’s Day Weekend

Charlotte likely sees its first 90° high in 281 days today.

Happy Friday! Get ready for the hottest day we’ve seen in over nine months. It’s been 281 days since the Queen City last topped out in the 90s; that streak should come to an end today. Expect afternoon temperatures to top out in the mid-to-lower 90s across the Piedmont and Foothills, while the High Country buzzes closer to 80°. A few clouds and even fewer storms are possible over the next 36 hours as a cold front approaches from the northwest, but most communities will enjoy plentiful sunshine through our Father’s Day weekend.

Temperatures will cool slightly behind tonight’s front, but should remain near 90° for the foreseeable future. Significant rain chances appear nonexistent over the next seven days, although a stray storm or two may pop up in the afternoons next week. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) continues to monitor a budding area of low pressure several hundred miles to our southeast, but this fledgling system will not impact the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. That said, those heading to the coast this weekend will want to watch out for an increased rip current risk.
