Discussion
This week will be another hot one with temps reaching the upper 80s to near 90 today under partly sunny skies. A weak boundary will remain over the region with isolated to scattered afternoon storms. Any storms that develop won’t move much so there will be a chance of heavy rain and localized flooding, especially for the mountains. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 60s. Expect a similar forecast tomorrow with more sunshine. Although high pressure is in place there is enough instability to trigger afternoon storms early in the week. High pressure will strengthen mid-week leading to a drier forecast aka minimal rain chances. Highs will top out in the upper 80s with an easterly breeze with overnight lows in the mid to upper 60s. Expect temps to climb this weekend into the mid to upper 90s during the day with overnight lows falling into the low to mid 70s overnight.
Tropics Update
Area #1 Southwestern Gulf: This has a high chance of development and will likely become a tropical depression or storm by mid-week.
A large area of unsettled weather over the Yucatan Peninsula is expected to organize into a broad low pressure system over the next 24 hours. The environment is favorable for this system to gradually strengthen and will likely develop into a tropical depression or storm by mid-week. It will move slowly west-northwest toward the western gulf bringing heavy rain, strong winds and dangerous surf to the region.
Area #2 Southwestern Atlantic: Low chance of development as it moves westward toward the southeast coast Thursday or Friday.
A low pressure area is expected to form northeast of the central Bahamas in a day or two. It might develop as it moves westward toward the southeast coast by late week.
