Discussion
We’re starting off the day with some patchy dense fog for the mountains and foothills. This will lift quickly with partly to mostly sunny skies through the afternoon. High pressure will keep a good hold of the region over the next few days and with winds out of the east today rain and storm chances will be minimal. This also means dew points will be a little lower than yesterday, so it won’t be ‘quite’ as muggy. Temps will climb to near 90 with overnight lows in the mid to upper 60s. Expect a similar forecast through Thursday. The upper level ridge will shift south by this weekend. This will lead temps to climb into the mid to upper 90s and with the return of more humidity it will feel like the triple digits. Isolated storm chances by Sunday and Monday, but no significant relief from the heat through early next week.
Tropics Update
Potential Tropical Cyclone One – Likely will become TS Alberto today
Located: ~440 mi SE of Brownsville, TX
Movement: N 7 mph
Sustained Wind: 40 mph
Central Pressure: 999 mb
Impacts: Regardless of development it will bring heavy rain, and storm surge to Mexico and Texas by mid-week.
Tropical Storm Watch: SE Texas from Port O’Connor, TX to the border. NE Mexico south to Puerto de Altamira.
Rainfall: 5-10 inches expected, up to 15 inches in isolated areas.
Storm Surge: 2-4 feet from Sargent to Sabine Pass, TX, 1-3 feet in other areas.
Area #2 SW Atlantic – Low Chance Development
A broad area of storms several hundred miles east of the Bahamas could see gradual development as it moves W-NW toward the SE coast by Friday. High pressure will help steer it toward the coast, but it will also limit any significant development.
Area #3 SW Gulf of Mexico – Low Chance Development
In the wake of what will likely become Alberto, a broad area of low pressure could develop this weekend. Although there will be a cold pool, a broad low pressure area will likely develop this weekend and conditions are conducive for gradual development through early next week as it moves N-NW through the Gulf.
