Discussion:
High pressure will keep a lid over the area today allowing temps to heat up into the upper 90s across the region. Winds will transition out of the southwest trapping this tropical air and making it feel more like the triple digits later this afternoon. Dangerous heat is likely with heat indices climbing to 103+ heat advisories have been issued for areas east of I-77 from 11am until 7/8pm. A cold front will bring isolated to widely scattered showers and storms to the mountains late in the day and through the evening. Expect an increase in scattered storms Thursday. Temps won’t be quite as hot, but it will remain pretty humid as the front stall near the region and eventually decays by Friday. Temps will heat up this weekend with heat indices once again racing toward the triple digits and moisture continues to pump into the region. Afternoon storms won’t have much movement, but they could produce heavy downpours. A cold front will move through the region Sunday, bringing more organized showers and storms and the threat of localized flooding. Even though it’s been so dry, too much rain in a short period of time could also be a problem. Once the front passes Sunday, temps will regulate to more seasonable highs back into the upper 80s with overnight lows falling into the upper 60s.
