Discussion:
We’ll experience a nice drop in heat and humidity to start off the month as a cold front settles east of the region. Temps will top out in the mid to upper 80s today with overnight lows falling into the low to mid 60s tonight. Expect a repeat performance of this pleasant forecast Tuesday. A subtropical ridge builds in mid-week, leading to highs near 90 by Wednesday. Temps will sizzle for the 4th of July and extend through the holiday weekend. Highs will reach the mid to upper 90s with heat indices near the triple digits this weekend. Overnight lows will also remain muggy in the mid to upper 70s. Humidity will rise as well, leading to chance afternoon storms through Sunday.
Hurricane Beryl:
Beryl is now a category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 120 mph and gusts up to 160 mph. It is located 110 mi SSE of Barbados and moving west at 20 mph. It will move over the Windward islands today where it is forecast to strengthen to a Cat 4 hurricane and travel across the SE Caribbean by Wednesday. From there it will move over the Yucatan Peninsula late in the week and make it to the Gulf of Mexico by this weekend. It is the earliest major hurricane to reach cat 4 status. That record was previously held by Hurricane Dennis when it became a Cat 4 on July 7, 2005.
TS Chris also formed over the weekend. It has moved inland over Mexico and will dissipate through the day today. Behind Beryl there is a high chance of another storm developing later this week.
