Discussion:
Hot and humid weather makes a comeback today as a subtropical ridge nudges east. This will lead to more moisture streaming into the region and an incredibly steamy forecast by late week. Today, temperatures will rise back into the low 90s, a noticeable increase in humidity, but still manageable. By the 4th of July it will get even muggier as dew points climb into the 70s. It will feel more like 103-105, under partly sunny skies with actual highs stretching into the mid 90s. Increased moisture will lead to increased instability and the return of isolated to widely scattered storms. These will likely clear after sunset, so there shouldn’t be too much impact on the fireworks. By Friday, dangerous heat is likely as heat indices reach above 105 during the afternoon. Storms become more scattered with actual highs pressing into the upper 90s. A cold front will approach the region by Saturday. This will trigger even more storms. If this boundary stalls out, expect the forecast to remain unsettled through the end of the weekend.
Hurricane Beryl:
Beryl is now a Category 4 Major Hurricane. It is being impacted by higher levels of wind shear which is disrupting the storms structure. Drier air is also weakening convection and overall strength. However, this still remains a dangerous storms and it will likely remain a major hurricane as it passes over Jamaica later today. From there it will move near the Cayman Islands Thursday and then toward the Yucatan Peninsula by Friday. Track is little more uncertain when it re-emerges over the Gulf of Mexico as a tropical storm. Trends are pulling it more northward which could mean impacts for Texas.
