The suspect, 39-year-old Terry Hughes, shot and killed Sam Poloche and William Elliott of the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections; Charlotte-Mecklenburg Officer Joshua Eyer; and Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks on Galway Drive on April 29th. Four other officers were also injured.
Chief Johnny Jennings said afterwards that more than 100 spent bullets were recovered at the scene. At least 12 officers fired their guns.
Police have said the two females inside the house, including a minor, were cooperating and have not been charged. Officials say Hughes told the females to “get out or get down” before opening fire.
Hughes suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his arms, shoulder, back, buttocks, thigh and abdomen. A toxicology report says he had THC in his system at the time of his death. It also says he had the drug Tadalafil in his system. It’s used to treat erectile dysfunction and high blood pressure, according to a report from the Mayo Clinic.
