CHARLOTTE, N.C. β The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says speed was a factor in a fatal motorcycle accident that happened in north Charlotte.
The crash occurred on west W.T Harris Boulevard near I-485 just before 9pm on Monday, July 22nd.
CMPD’s initial investigation determined that the driver of a Honda CR-V was trying to make a left turn onto the ramp to I-485 and collided with a motorcycle that was driving at a high rate of speed, according to CMPD.
Police say the driver of the motorcycle has been identified as 21-year-old Bryan Barreras. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to a news release.
Police say Barreras was wearing a NCDOT approved helmet but that he wasn’t wearing the helmet properly. The driver of the Honda and their two passengers were not injured in the accident.
Police say speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash for Barreras. Toxicology results are pending.
This crash remains under investigation.
