Classic Summer Weekend Ahead
We'll need to stay weather-wise for a few strong storms on Saturday and Sunday, but we can look forward to cooler and drier air next week.
Happy Friday! The cooler and drier pattern earlier this week was nice, but summer roars back into the Carolinas this weekend. Expect a hot and humid Saturday across the Piedmont and Foothills as highs soar into the lower 90s. A few pop-up storms are possible in the afternoon, but most will remain under mostly sunny skies through the first half of the weekend. A strong cold front begins to push into our area by Sunday afternoon – we’ll need to stay weather-wise for strong, gusty storms, but the overall severe threat is low. Highs remain in the 80s and 90s for the most part as we close out the weekend, but big changes lie ahead as we move into the workweek.
Winds will shift out of the north and west by Monday morning as the cold front passes through. Expect highs to drop into the mid-80s to kick off the workweek as humidity levels also take a tumble. The back half of the week ahead looks gorgeous with highs largely in the 70s and 80s with dew points in the upper 50s – very dry for this time of year.
Hurricane Ernesto looks like a beast on satellite as it swirls closer to Bermuda. The Category 2 storm may flirt with major status as it looks to make a direct hit on the British territory. While Ernesto will create strong rip currents along the Carolina coastline, we won’t see any impacts from the hurricane in the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. Ernesto will continue to jaunt northeastward over the next several days before turning due east near Newfoundland & Labrador as an extratropical system.
