18-Year-Old Arrested For Multiple Armed Robberies In Monroe
MONROE, N.C. – An 18-year-old was arrested Friday night after police said he committed multiple armed robberies earlier this week, the Monroe Police Department said.
The first robbery happened around 1:50 a.m. Wednesday at a Circle K on Old Charlotte Highway. Leiland Nunez, 18, allegedly pulled out a handgun, demanded money and left before police arrived.
The second robbery occurred at City Tobacco on Walkup Avenue around 11 p.m. Thursday night. Police said they received a similar description about Nunez wielding a handgun and demanding money before leaving the store.
The investigation led police to a home on Farm Pond Lane in Indian Trail. Police encountered Nunez and said he tried to leave through the back door before he was stopped by officers.
Monroe Police charged Nunez with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon. He also faces a charge for attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon in Wingate.
Nunez is in the custody of the Union County Detention Center and has not received a bond amount yet.
