CHARLOTTE, N.C. – (NEWSLETTER) Hornets Sports & Entertainment (HSE) today announced their continued efforts surrounding the organization’s voting initiative, “Swarm the Polls,” in advance of the upcoming 2024 elections on November 5. HSE is again partnering with You Can Vote for the initiative, which aims to educate the public about the importance of voting, inform people on how to vote, drive voter registration and encourage voter turnout.
The Swarm the Polls hub, hornets.com/go-vote, contains a variety of information and resources for voters in both North and South Carolina, including links to register to vote, check registration status, find polling places, request absentee ballots and more. Leading up to November 5, the Hornets will be hosting a series of energetic Swarm the Polls “Polling Parties” – in collaboration with You Can Vote, North Carolina Asian Americans Together and the Latino Civic Engagement Committee – to deliver information and help individuals get registered to vote.
Visit the Swarm the Polls website or text “VOTE2024” to 704.918.1465 for the full schedule and latest voting updates.
“Our goal through the Swarm the Polls initiative is to ensure that as many people as possible across the Carolinas have the ability to participate in the electoral process and make their voices heard this election cycle,” said Hornets Sports & Entertainment President of Business Operations Shelly Cayette-Weston. “Voting is a key element of the democratic process, and every voice helps to shape our future. Along with the broader NBA community, we’re really proud to use our platforms to help drive voter registration, access and turnout, especially amongst young voters and those who haven’t had the opportunity to vote before.”
Swarm the Polls activations will also be held at Spectrum Center on both Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2, when the Hornets host defending-champion Boston Celtics for a pair of back-to-back games. Additional promotion will take place on the websites and social media outlets of each of HSE’s entities – the Hornets, Spectrum Center and the Greensboro Swarm.
For the third consecutive season, no NBA games are scheduled for Election Day. Instead, all 30 teams are scheduled to play the night before Election Day – with the Hornets taking on the Timberwolves in Minnesota – using their collective platforms to encourage voter turnout.
Swarm the Polls was initially launched in September 2020 as part of HSE’s Social Justice Platform.
