The preliminary investigation of the crash states that a BMW X3 was driving on Sharon View Road and crossed the center line, resulting in a collision head-on with a GMC Acadia.
Police say the driver of the BMW, 50-year-old Allison Layson, sustained serious injuries and an 11-year-old passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. A second juvenile passanger of the BMW sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the GMC and the juvenile passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Police do not think speed or impairment were factors in the crash.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β A juvenile was killed and several others were transported to the hospital following a serious vehicle collision in south Charlotte on Saturday afternoon.
It happened along Sharon View Road near Chadwick Place just before noon.
Medic said it transported two patients with life-threatening injuries. Three additional victims were transported with serious injuries. Around 1 p.m., CMPD said a juvenile was pronounced dead at the hospital.
No further details have been released at this time. We are working to learn what led up to the crash.
Sharon View Road between Chadwick Place and Beckford Drive is closed. The road is expected to be closed for several hours while police investigate.
