CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Tavonte House was sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of the April 6th shooting death of 31-year-old Derrick Chambers.
The trial, which began on September 9, 2024, ended September 19th with the jury’s verdict. The Honorable W. Robert Bell, Superior Court Judge, presided over the trial.
The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Team tried House, 32, for first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The jury found him guilty as charged. On Thursday morning, Judge Bell sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the first-degree murder charge and 19–32 months in prison for the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charge.
That sentence will run concurrently with the life sentence.
Two co-defendants, Diyondre Wilson and Keniya Guyton, were previously convicted in connection with the crimes. Charges against a third co-defendant, Malik Benson, remain pending.
