2 Men Charged With Murder After Attempted Drug Deal Robbery
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Two men were charged with murder after a man, who was shot in the head during an armed robbery of an alleged drug deal, died Friday, according to the Rock Hill Police Department.
The 21-year-old man died after sustaining a gunshot wound last Sunday.
Christopher Boyd, 21, and Demetris Franklin, 19, were each issued murder warrants. Both were previously charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Franklin was also initially charged with possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. Boyd was issued a charge for the same offense on Friday.
Just after midnight Sunday, officers responded to 1195 Saluda Street near Mount Holly Road in Rock Hill in regards to a shooting.
There, officers located a man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head, according to a news release. Boyd and Franklin were also on scene in a black pickup truck and claimed that the man tried to rob them in the parking lot.
However, investigators determined that Boyd and Franklin were in the parking lot to engage in a drug deal with the victim.
When the victim pulled a handgun out to rob them, police said Franklin used his firearm to shoot him.
