CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Mecklenburg County deputy was injured after being involved in a car accident while on duty, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy was completing a traffic stop around 6 p.m. Saturday when another vehicle allegedly drove by at a high rate of speed. As the deputy attempted to stop the driver, the driver then hit the brakes and struck another vehicle before fleeing the scene.
To avoid a collision, the deputy swerved, causing their car to go airborne, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputy sustained a non-life-threatening injury that will require surgery. The deputy is expected to make a full recovery.
The sheriff’s office is still searching for the driver involved in this incident.
