Hegseth brings back Fort Bragg with different namesake

FAYETVILLE, NC – Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, has ordered the Army to change the name of Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg. The North Carolina military installation was renamed Fort Liberty in 2023. It’s original name honored Braxton Bragg, a confederate general. Going forward, the Pentagon says the name “Bragg” will honor a different Bragg, Private First Class Roland L. Bragg. He was a World War II veteran awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for extraordinary bravery during the Battle of the Bulge. The Army will be responsible for implementing any name change to the base.
