Names and charges piling up as investigators work “fast-moving” and “complex” investigation of deadly Catawba Co. house party
CATAWBA CO., – The names and charges are piling up in the Catawba County house party mass shooting investigation. Detectives have so far named eight people they say are connected to the deadly event. Those people face charges ranging from attempted murder to accessory after the fact to promoting underage drinking. One man died and 11 people were hurt early Sunday morning when gunfire erupted at the house party.
20-year-old Garon Killian stood quietly in court Thursday as he learned he will not get the chance to make bond, after all. On Wednesday, a judge set bond for the young man accused of attempted murder at the house party in Catawba County. On Thursday, prosecutors told a different judge that Killian is a “clear and present threat” an “admitted gang member” and “violent.”
In April, they say he did the same thing: shot into a crowd of people. Killian faces more than a dozen charges in that case, including seven counts of attempted murder. Prosecutors say his presence at the weekend house party with a firearm is a violation of his pre-trial release for the April case and that he has “no regard for the court or the rule of law.”
The judge agreed, pulling his bond.
Raekwan Craig was also in court Thursday. Prosecutors say he’s the party promoter, invited 18-year-olds and promised alcohol. They say he bought and delivered the alcohol to the party. The judge set his bond at $7,500.
At the crime scene Thursday, there was still a heavy police presence as law enforcement continues to process the scene. The FBI shared photos of investigators on the roof of the house on Walnut Acres Road, collecting evidence from the mass shooting. They call the case “fast moving” and “complex.”
