Congresswoman Maxine Waters denied entry into detention center

On Sunday, Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters of California attempted to visit a prisoner at the metropolitan detention center in Los Angeles,Β  but was turned away.

Waters was trying to see David Huerta –  the president of the Service Employees International Union.Β

Federal agents arrested him after he allegedly tried to interfere with their access to a worksite.

After she was denied entry to the detention center, Waters then criticized the presence of national guard troops at demonstrations protesting the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

Waters said the protesters are peaceful and she expressed concern the guard’s presence could escalate the situation, and result in violence.
