CHARLOTTE, NC – A construction worker is recovering after getting hurt at a construction site on Metropolitan Avenue Thursday morning.

The accident happened as the person worked on the sixth floor of a high-rise under construction.

Charlotte Fire says crews were called to the scene around 9:20am and evaluated the site before deciding that using a crane for the high-angle rescue would be the best way to get the victim to the ground.

According to a post on X, crews from Ladder 1 carefully secured the patient inside a stokes basket while additional responding companies from Rescue 11, Engine 11, and Engine 1 began expert rigging operations.  The stokes basket was attached to the crane already in place at the site, and a Charlotte firefighter accompanied the basket to ensure the patient remained stable and secure during the descent.

“This is another example of the courage, skill, and composure of our Charlotte Firefighters,” said Fire Chief Reginald Johnson. “What could have been a tragic outcome was expertly handled with professionalism and care. I’m proud of our team for their swift response and dedication to saving lives.”
