Charlotte Fire conducts water rescues from heavy flooding

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte Fire Department responded to 51 flood related calls after heavy rainfall on Thursday.

The calls included dramatic rescues in rising water that left people stranded and in danger.

Two people were trapped inside a vehicle surrounded by fast-rising floodwaters on Woodland Drive. The pair was unable to escape their car safely and were brought to dry ground by firefighters.

In one of the evening’s largest rescue operations, 13 people were rescued from hazardous conditions as water quickly filled the area near Freedom Park. Charlotte Fire deployed inflatable rescue boats to reach those in need and bring them to safety.

Another major operation took place on John Price Road. Crews worked together to evacuate between 18 and 20 individuals as floodwaters rose swiftly through the area. The rescue required rapid coordination and specialized techniques to protect lives and ensure safe evacuation.

Charlotte Fire urges all residents: never drive through flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown.
