Embattled Charlotte City Councilwoman files for re-election
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Embattled Charlotte City Council member Tiawana Brown filed for re-election Wednesday. Representing the city’s third district, Brown was indicted in May for fraudulently using $124,000 in COVID-era relief funds two years before she was elected.
She spoke Wednesday from the Board of Elections after she filed her paperwork. Brown said, “I am officially running. I’m officially leaving here to go knock on doors in my red bottoms. Even in the storm. Doing what I told the people I would do. Stand. After you’ve done all you can do, you just stand.”
Brown was first elected back in 2023. She previously served over two years in federal prison back in the 90s over similar fraud charges.
