Snooze News: 5 NC hotels score top zzz’s nationwide

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– How do you rate the quality of a hotel? Is it the service that’s most important to you or the facilities? Or are you the type of person who correlates the number of stars on your review to the amount of options on the breakfast buffet? Perhaps the most overlooked (and most important) factor is sleep. After all, no resort feels luxurious after a night of tossing and turning.

Using Tripadvisor review data, SleepJunkie were able to identify the 200 best hotels in America’s top vacation hotspots – based specifically on sleep-related mentions.

From mattress comfort to room humidity to nighttime noise levels, they tracked the real-world factors that determine whether guests wake up refreshed… or regretful.

Nationally, the top 10 were as follows:

#1. Skytop Lodge, Poconos, Pennsylvania

#5. Hotel Breakers, Cedar Point, Ohio
On the shores of Lake Erie and within steps of dedicated entrances to Cedar Point, this property effortlessly combines relaxation with adventure. Whether you choose to spend your day riding roller coasters or swimming in the sun, you know you’ll be doing it well rested. With 669 rooms and suites and plenty of configurations to choose from, theirs a bedroom set up to ensure that every family member gets a well-deserved rest.

#6. Hotel Julien Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa
City stays never looked this relaxing. Here, historic charm combines with lavish features in the 133 guest rooms that are perfectly set up to ensure a decent sleep. Think massive king-size beds, luxury linens, and plush bathrobes to take you straight from shower to sleep. In the morning, you can pick up a complimentary newspaper and settle back with some room service like something from yesteryear.

#7. The Roosevelt New Orleans, New Orleans, Louisiana 
This historic hotel, part of the Waldorf Astoria group, is located just one block from New Orleans’ French Quarter. Whether you’re here for jazz or jambalaya, sleep is part of the magic: “The rooms are spotless, clean, great sleep experience, and the amenities in the room are upscale, just perfect.” Another guest remarks, “Nice suite on higher floor. Very clean with coffee and water provided. Good quiet sleep” and “The bed was comfy and sleep quality excellent.”

#8. The Little Nell, Aspen, Colorado
Aspen’s most luxurious stay also happens to be one of its most sleep-friendly. Guests praise the high-thread-count everything: “very comfortable bed with really nice linens”, “Towels were large and plush; the bed was comfortable with very nice linens;” and “The bed was a Bryte ‘smart’ which had variable firmness and interesting, soft rolling motion feature. Very comfortable!” Come simply to spend time in the mountains and go home feeling totally rested.

#9. The Chanler at Cliff Walk, Newport, Rhode Island
The only five-star hotel in Newport on the Forbes Travel List, the Newport was once the summer residence of New York Congressman John Winthrop Chanler. While the hotel may date back to 1873, it offers the best modern amenities to ensure a good night’s rest. With just 20 guest rooms, you’ll feel right at home from the moment you arrive, that’s if your home is a palace, of course, and the gorgeous beds will have you wishing you had one at your house.

#10. Element Bozeman, Bozeman, Montana
Located in the heart of downtown Bozeman and just one block from Main Street, this modern hotel puts you right in the action but with none of the noise. Guests praise the hotel for being very quiet and comfortable despite its location. It may have something to do with the Heavenly Beds and thoughtful amenities that make you feel relaxed despite the urban setting and style.

With mountain views and spa services, this historic inn also impresses in the sleep department. One guest puts it simply: “The bed was incredibly comfortable, and everything was spotless and well-maintained.” A dream base for exploring the Blue Ridge.

#43. The Inn on Pamlico Sound, Buxton (Outer Banks)
Overlooking the water, this intimate inn is a top pick for serenity seekers. One guest shared: “Very comfortable room and bed and a gorgeous view.” Another added: “At night, we had the windows open. We slept like a baby to the sound of the ocean.”

#89. Chetola Resort, Blowing Rock
This Blue Ridge Mountains resort delivers both charm and rest. One reviewer simply said: “The bed was extremely comfortable and the rocking chairs on the balcony provided a delightful place to relax.”

#194. The Horton Hotel, Boone
Boutique charm and sleep-friendly design. A reviewer said: “The rooms are gorgeous, with comfortable beds and pillows and luxury appointments.”

#195. ARRIVE Wilmington, Wilmington
Cool, clean, and designed for great rest. One guest reported: “Room is exceptionally clean! Bed & pillows are amazing!”
