MONROE, N.C. – Monroe Police are actively investigating a shooting that left a 19-year-old male injured.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire and a person shot at the 2705 apartment building on Nottingham Lane around 12:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers located a 19-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. The victim was quickly transported to CMC Main for medical treatment and is expected to survive his injuries.
Due to the chaotic nature of the scene and out of an abundance of caution, the Monroe Police Department’s Special Response Team conducted safety clearances of two apartments initially believed to be connected to the incident.
Initial investigation indicates that a group of teenagers were talking in the breezeway of the apartment complex when shots were fired. The suspect is believed to have fired from near the pool house, striking the victim.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
