Boil water notice issued after E.Coli bacteria detected in York County water sample

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A boil water notice has been issued for residents in Western York County after the presence of E.Coli bacteria was detected in a water sample.

York County Water says they routinely take 30 water samples for testing each month as required by state law. Only one of those 30 samples came back positive for E.Coli, according to a news release.

Officials say out of an abundance of caution, they are issuing a boil water advisory for customers in the affected area.

*This is predominately the Lake Wylie area, but also extends toward Rock Hill.

Here is a map showing the area included in the boil water advisory.

York County Water says: To use the map, the area in white is our service area. Zoom in on your street. If there is a blue line running along your street you are in the affected area and under this advisory. Following SCDES guidelines, we will take additional samples for testing, on Friday and again on Saturday. The boil water advisory will likely remain in place until Monday.

York County Water says they are investigating the reason the one particular sample gave a positive result.
