Wet start to workweek, Imelda turns out to sea

Drier times return as soon as Tuesday afternoon for many.

One week into fall, and we’re finally getting in on some autumnal feels this Monday afternoon; unfortunately, it’s taken a tropical storm to do so. While the vast majority of the rain from newly formed Tropical Storm Imelda remains well offshore, tropical moisture will stream into the Carolinas over the next 48 hours, bumping up rain chances across the two states through the first two days of the workweek. Most Piedmont communities across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area will receive around an inch of rain over the next 36 hours. While some localized amounts around the Metro and eastward could reach 2″ or more, most locations will see decidedly less.

As Imelda turns out to sea by midweek, so do our rain chances. Drier times return for most by Tuesday evening as a powerful ridge of high pressure builds in from the north. Sunny skies and cooler highs take the reins from there – afternoon temperatures top out in the mid-to-lower 70s around the Metro between Thursday and Sunday after a warmer start to October on Wednesday.
