Rain fades away, sunshine in sight

Our second day of the workweek gets off to a soggy start, but sunny skies and comfy highs aren't far away.

Who’s ready for some sunshine? While the clouds and pesky showers stick around today, sunny skies and comfy highs aren’t far away. While this Tuesday is off to a soggy start for many, scattered showers will slowly fade as the afternoon progresses; highs will top out in the upper 60s and mid-to-lower 70s across the board. Abundant sunshine returns to the WCCB Charlotte viewing area in time for October’s first day on Wednesday as afternoon temperatures top out near 80Β° around the Metro.

The new month gets off to a warm start, but much cooler air finishes off the week as a powerful ridge of high pressure sets up over the Northeast; highs will reach into the mid-70s across the Piedmont and Foothills on Thursday and Friday. The good times roll into the weekend ahead, but temperatures should rise closer to 80Β° once again in the Queen City by Sunday. Our next significant rain chances don’t arrive until next Monday at the earliest.

Tropical Storm Imelda continues to fling moisture toward the Carolinas from the south, but its reign over us from the shadows of the Gulf Stream will be coming to an end soon as Hurricane Humberto yanks it out to sea. Hurricane Warnings are up for Bermuda as it jogs northeastward over the coming days, but no other landmasses are in its current path. Fortunately, the tropics are otherwise quiet for now.
