Deadly shooting shakes up a SouthPark neighborhood

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Neighbors are rattled after a deadly shooting in Southpark. A woman was shot and killed inside an upscale apartment parking garage Monday morning around 7:00.

Police say a woman was shot in the parking garage of Hazel Southpark and rushed to the hospital where she died. Police have been tight lipped about the details in the case.

The apartment complex sent an email to residents saying there is no threat to the community. The apartment is in CMPD’s Providence Division. Data from the first nine months of the year that doesn’t include Monday’s deadly shooting shows 1 homicide, 32 robberies, 65 assault with a deadly weapon, and 7 shootings into occupied property.

Some residents say they still feel safe, but it would be nice to see some changes.

“I know there you have to have a fob to get into anywhere, where, and I know they’re probably going to make some changes as well now, which makes sense. Maybe more cameras, maybe,” Diana Melts, Resident said.

Police have not announced any arrests or further information about the victim in this case at this time. If you know anything that could help police call CrimeStoppers at 704-432-8477.

CMPD will release new crime data from the third quarter of year on Wednesday.
