A treat of a forecast Friday

Freeze alerts on the way

After several days of rain, a stretch of drier and cooler weather is on the way as we move toward the weekend.

Tonight, skies turn mostly clear, allowing the air to cool quickly with overnight lows will dip into the 30s and 40s. Looking ahead to Friday, expect another brisk day, but conditions will stay dry with plenty of sunshine to end the week.

As we head into Halloween and the upcoming weekend, the weather is shaping up to feel much more like fall across the Charlotte area. After a stretch of unsettled skies, conditions will clear out by Friday, setting us up for several days of bright sunshine. However, you’ll want to keep those jackets handy as temperatures will be running noticeably cooler than average. Afternoon highs will only reach the low to mid-60s, while overnight lows drop into the upper 30s to low 40s. That’s about 5 to 10 degrees below what we typically see this time of year, and it could make Saturday morning the first time this season that Charlotte dips below the 40-degree mark. If you’re heading out for Halloween festivities or any weekend events, make sure to bundle up under your costume or layers as the evenings will feel crisp and chilly. With clear skies, cool air, and plenty of autumn color still lingering, it’s a perfect setup for a fall weekend around the Queen City.

Tropics

Bermuda is bracing for impacts from Hurricane Melissa tonight, with Hurricane Warnings currently in effect across the island. Once Melissa loses tropical characteristics, the system is expected to bring a brief round of heavy rain and gusty winds to the southern Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland late Friday night as it races into the North Atlantic.
