A Quiet Stretch Before a Big Cooldown Next Week

Tracking rain late week

The region continues to enjoy a stretch of quiet fall weather, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures carrying us through the end of the week. The only real downside to all this sunshine has been the pretty dry conditions. We have seen several rain-free days, along with humidity levels remaining low . That combination means the fire danger risk is elevated, especially during the afternoon when winds pick up. It’s a good time to avoid any outdoor burning that could cause a fire.

By late Friday night into Saturday morning, a weak front slides through the area. It will manage to squeeze out a few light showers, but rainfall totals will be minimal not making a dent in the dry pattern. Behind that front, temperatures will stay seasonable through the weekend.

Then, get ready for a noticeable blast of cold air early next week. A much stronger system will tap into Canadian air, sending daytime highs tumbling into the 50s for several days. Overnight lows will drop to around freezing, signaling a real taste of winter. If you’ve been holding off on bringing in sensitive plants or wrapping outdoor pipes, early next week will be the time to prepare. Also, this weekend would be a good time to dig out that heavier coat.

Enjoy the mild, sunny stretch while it lastsbig changes are right around the corner!
