MONROE, N.C. — Eddie Cathey announced Monday that he is seeking reelection as Sheriff of Union County.
Cathey was first elected in 2002 and will close out the year as the longest-serving Sheriff in the history of the county, according to Cathey’s campaign office.
The General Election in North Carolina for the Sheriff’s office is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
If reelected, Cathey would serve his seventh term as Sheriff.
“With your continued support, we will keep Union County safe, strong and united,” says Cathey.
It is still too early in the election cycle for other candidates to officially file or announcing their campaign to run against Sheriff Cathey for the 2026 election.
The candidate filing period of the 2026 Partisan Primary is set to begin in December 2025.
