We’re gearing up for a brief warm-up before the arctic moves in later this weekend, and the swing is going to be dramatic!
In the mountains, winter refuses to let up. Another weak wave is expected to move through, bringing a few more snow showers tonight. These won’t be big totals, but they’ll keep things slick and snowy, especially in the higher elevations. With winds still whipping and overnight lows in the mid 20s it will make for difficult driving conditions.
In the Charlotte Metro, we finally get a taste of something milder heading into Friday. Temperatures will climb into the 50s tomorrow, and Saturday brings a chance of the 60s. If you love mild weather, Saturday is your day to soak it in and finish up any holiday decorating outside.
But don’t let that taste of warmth fool you, because things are headed for a sharp turn.
By Sunday, arctic air is set to spill into the Carolinas. We’re talking temperatures plunging into the teens by Monday morning, with wind chills making it feel even colder. It will be the kind of air that bites the moment you step outside. Daytime highs by Sunday drop about 10 degrees only reaching the mid 40s, and by Monday highs stay in the 30s. The positive this front won’t provide a significant shot of rain, but it will make a statement temperature wise.
