Tracking near record breaking warmth this week

Tonight remains nice and dry under mostly cloudy skies with most areas staying mild in the mid 40s.
​The warmth has started to build, and Christmas Eve is shaping up to be one for the record books across the region. Temperatures are expected to soar with some spots flirting with the low 70s. Areas outside the mountains will feel it the most. Even after sunset, it won’t cool off much, with a calm, clear night and temperatures settling into the upper 40s, under mostly cloudy skies.

As Christmas morning arrives, clouds will drift in here and there, but the air will stay comfortable. Temperatures will hover well above typical December averages. Throughout Christmas Day it’s lining up to be the warmest holiday we’ve had in several years and could land near the top of the all-time warmest Christmas​Days.  Afternoon temperatures may climb into the mid-70s, which makes it a great excuse to fire up the grill or enjoy time outside. Sunshine will dominate, with just a few passing clouds to break it up.

The weekend keeps the same theme going with dry weather and plenty of sun. Both Saturday and Sunday are expected to run far above average, with temperatures staying 15 to 20 degrees warmer than normal. Saturday stands out as the best chance to set a new daily record, with highs pushing into the mid-70s. Sunday will be the turning point, as a cold front will sweep through, bringing gustier winds and marking the final day of near 70-degree weather for a while.

Looking ahead to next week, changes are on the way! Temperatures will ease back closer to what we expect for this time of year, and a few spotty showers may develop.
