Dangerous cold to start Friday before a slight warm-up
Tracking a weekend storm
Friday looks quiet but remains cold. Skies stay sunny to mostly sunny, which helps temperatures reach the upper 40s by the afternoon. Even with the sunshine, it won’t feel comfortable with wind chills in the 30s, so it’s still layers are your friend weather.
Saturday will begin with a little bit of wet weather. Expect rain early in the morning around Charlotte Metro, while areas north of the city, near the I-40 corridor, could briefly see a rain/snow mix. Just after noon rain moves out, skies turn sunny, and temperatures climb into the low to mid-50s, slightly above seasonal averages. Clouds will thicken again toward evening, but the second half of the day looks much better than the first.
Now Sunday!
At this point, we’re watching a very uncertain storm system that may pass through Sunday morning. At this point we have 30% chance it will produce some snow. For most people, that means gray skies and cold air, with maybe a few flakes drifting down. A smaller portion of the area could catch a brief window of light snow, but meaningful accumulation is not expected as of now. For me things do not fully align with a significant winter event, but our team is watching very closely.
Snow or not, Sunday remains very cold and cloudy.
Next week, our pattern doesn’t change much with below-normal temperatures sticking around.
