Warmer Saturday with more cold on the way

Tracking a few flakes with bitter cold

If you’re making weekend plans, the weather won’t be a total washout, but it does come with a few twists and turns.

Tonight remains cold, but it’s slightly warmer than the last few nights with lows just above freezing.

By late morning into early afternoon, clouds break up and sunshine takes over. Temperatures climb back to near-normal levels, topping out in the mid-50s. It will stay breezy, but the air is noticeably milder.

Heading into early Sunday, we’re still keeping an eye on a narrow window where snow could briefly form as another system passes through. This is a low-probability, low-impact setup. The best chance for flakes would be Sunday morning into the early afternoon, and even then, we’re talking about a trace at best.

Any flakes that do fall shouldn’t cause problems. Road temperatures remain relatively warm, which keeps impacts minimal. By later in the day, some sunshine returns, but it stays cold with afternoon highs only reaching the low 40s.

Looking ahead to next week, winter won’t loosen its grip. Another surge of cold air may drop in by the middle of the week as a strong area of high pressure builds south. That could bring another stretch of colder temperatures and gusty winds.

Expect colder conditions to return Monday night into Tuesday. Temperatures moderate slightly by Wednesday.

The bottom line it’s not a bad weekend overall, just a chilly one. Enjoy!
