More cold continuing through the week

Tracking another weekend storm

Even with plenty of sunshine on today, the cold isn’t going anywhere just yet. Tonight temperatures will struggle again in the lower 20s, with a good amount of clearing.

As we move into the middle of the week, temperatures begin a slow and steady climb with an emphasis on slow. Wednesday and Thursday bring a slightly milder air mass, allowing highs to inch into the low to mid-40s. While that’s technically warmer, it’s still running well below our typical late-January average in the low 50s. Expect a mix of clouds and sunshine during the day, paired with cold mornings as overnight lows hover near 20 degrees. Winter layers remain a daily necessity.

By Friday, clouds start to thicken as our next weather system approaches, though temperatures should hold fairly steady in the 40s. The bigger takeaway will be the cloud cover and what it may signal heading into the weekend.

Now the weekend, there’s a low-confidence of our next storm system that we’re keeping an eye on for Friday night into Saturday. Some data hints at a nor’easter-like setup attempting to move through the Carolinas. There are still plenty of questions to sort out.

In the meantime, stay warm, and take it easy during those chilly morning commutes.
