As we head into tonight, winter isn’t quite finished with our mountain communities. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in place through Saturday morning for the higher elevations, where snowfall totals could stack up between six to eight inches. If you live in or plan to travel through Ashe, Avery, or Watauga counties, be prepared for slick spots and snow-covered roads, especially overnight.

Those same counties are also under a Cold Weather Advisory through Saturday morning. It’s not just the snowit’s the biting air. Wind chills could tumble into the single digits, and in some spots even dip below zero by early Saturday. Bundle up if you’re heading out.

A High Wind Warning continues for Ashe, Avery, and Watauga counties through Saturday afternoon and evening, while a Wind Advisory stretches into the foothills, Piedmont and Sandhills. Even though the air will dry out, the gusts will be strong enough to make it feel even colder and could cause a few isolated issues like downed limbs.

Areas outside of the mountains, the skies clear out and temperatures drop back into the mid-20s. The positive, is the weekend looks quiet. We’re expecting plenty of sunshine both Saturday and Sunday, with afternoon highs reaching the low 40s Saturday and climbing into the upper 40s by Sunday.

Even better  a steady warm-up begins early next week. Charlotte temperatures will climb back into the 50s, and by the middle of the week, some neighborhoods could even touch the 60s. A little taste of spring is on the way!
