Sunny start to the weekend

Next big weather maker moves in Sunday evening

Friday night is shaping up to be a cool and quiet one across the area. Temperatures will steadily fall through the evening, eventually settling into the 40s overnight.

As we roll into Saturday, the weekend really gets off to a beautiful start. Sunshine will take center stage for most of the day. Afternoon highs will climb into the low 70s. The air will feel mild, the skies will stay mostly clear, and overall it should feel like an ideal early spring day.

Sunday will start off on a similar note with warm temperatures and a fairly quiet morning. Highs will again reach the low to mid 70s, so the warmth sticks around to close out the weekend. However, the atmosphere will begin to change as we head later into the day. Clouds will gradually increase, and moisture moving inland from the coast will start to make things feel a bit more unsettled. By Sunday afternoon and evening, a few scattered showersand possibly a couple of thunderstorms could begin to develop. It won’t be a washout for everyone.

The bigger weather story looks to unfold on Monday. A strong cold front approaching the region will bring the best chance for widespread rain and storms. Some of those storms could become strong, or even severe. Right now, the exact timing of the front is still a bit uncertain, which will play a big role in how intense the storms may become. As we get closer, we’ll have a better idea of when the rain arrives and impacts. But this front looks to hold its intergrity and will be impactful.

Once that cold front sweeps through, we’ll notice a change in the air once again. Temperatures will cool down behind the system, bringing us back to more typical conditions for mid-March. The timing lines up with St. Patrick’s Day and the early part of next week, so while the sunshine may return, it will feel noticeably cooler compared to the warmth we’ll see this weekend.

Overall, the forecast is a bit of a rollercoaster!
