Tax Season: What to know before you file

CHARLOTTE, NC — Tax season is underway, and experts say taking a few extra minutes to understand new credits, deductions and filing mistakes could make a big difference in your return.

Arthur Bartlett, senior attorney with the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy’s North Carolina Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic shares some of the most important things taxpayers should keep in mind before filing.

If you need help preparing your taxes, several free resources are available, including Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites for qualifying taxpayers and free filing tools available at IRS.gov.
