2 men tell police they’re headed to SC to “dolphin watch,” instead arrested in suspected drone drug delivery scheme

MONROE, N.C. – Monroe Police say a traffic stop led to the arrests of two men now accused of trying to use a drone to drop drugs to prisoners. Officers say 31-year-old Dalontae Spears and 33-year-old Myles Summerville, both from Ohio, were stopped on Hanover Drive Tuesday morning. Police say they were pulled over because their car had a fictitious license plate. The men told police they were on their way to South Carolina to go dolphin watching.

As officers continued to investigate, they say they found a drone and a stash of fentanyl, cocaine and marijuana inside the car. Investigators believe the men planned to use the drone to drop the drugs to inmates in correctional facilities. Now, both Spears and Summerville face multiple drug trafficking charges.
