A brief temperature drop on the way

Tracking a temperature roller-coaster

It was a record-breaking day across the Piedmont as new daily record highs were set. Many of us reached the upper 80s with even a 90 or two sprinkled in across the region. Tomorrow will once again be warm, but not as hot as today as a cold front approaches from the north. This frontal system will have the potential to spark off a stray evening storm tomorrow, but it looks like the majority of us stay dry.

This will lead to a temperature drop on Tuesday as cooler winds out of the north and cloud cover lock highs close to 60 for most. This is nearly a 30 degree temperature drop from today’s high temperatures. The good news for warm weather fans is this cooldown won’t last long as another temperature climb lasts through the end of the work week.

As great as the dry and warm weather is, it does come with a pretty glaring downside. Ongoing drought, low humidity, and gusty winds will drive the wild and brush fire risk higher through the week ahead. It is imperative that you use extreme caution when doing any burning. If you can avoid any burning, that is the ideal route to take!
